The Price Of Beauty.

Hey guys! I hope you had a Merry Christmas where you got to spend time doing the things you love, with the people you love.

I had a great Christmas myself and I was fortunate enough to spend it with some really close friends and my siblings and my parents.

Now one thing to know about me is that I am a makeup junkie in training. I love experimenting with makeup. I thought it would be a cool idea to show you the makeup that I use, but in a different way. I'm going to show you how much my face cost, and by that I mean the grand total of all the makeup products I use combined. So without further ado, here we go!

My Makeup Routine

*Affiliate links are used. For more information, check out the disclosure page.

  1. Primer: I personally use Smashbox's Photo Finish Primer.* It blurs my pores out and it keeps my foundation from slipping and sliding around. I usually will get the travel size one since a little goes a long way and I love getting the free travel bag from Sephora (You get three travel sized items and you get the bag for free, saving you $4.95!). Retail Price: $16.00

  2. Powder: I took a trick out of Jackie Aina's (beauty Youtuber who uses her platform to advocate for inclusiveness and diversity in the makeup industry) book and I set my primer with powder before going in with foundation. I had the e.l.f Cosmetics High Definition Powder* lying around so I tested her trick out with this powder, and I feel like my foundation is more matte when I set the primer with powder vs. not setting it. After the powder runs out, I'll be picking up a different one, but for the price you can't beat it. Retail Price: $6.00

  3. Eyebrows: This is the hardest part of the makeup routine in my opinion. This will also take me the longest to complete. I was blessed with sparse eyebrows but a good shape. I usually use the Benefit Goof Proof Brow Pencil in #4* but I decided to give the Anastasia Beverly Hills Perfect Brow Pencil in Dark Brown* a try. I really liked the color payoff and the ease of using it. I would definitely repurchase this pencil. Retail Price: $23.00

  4. Foundation: Now it's time for foundation. I use the Sephora Collection 10 HR Wear Perfection Foundation in Deep Mocha.* It gives me one of the best color matches that I've had in my entire life. It lasts me all day and it doesn't oxidize (I've had horrible experiences with oxidation, but those stories are for another post). I usually have one backup on hand, but the foundation lasts me months, there's so much product. Retail Price: $20.00

  5. Concealer: I use the Maybelline Fit Me Concealer in 30 Cafe* to conceal under my eyes and to highlight my face as well. I like the formula, super creamy and easy to blend. Retail Price: $6.00

  6. Setting Powder: To set under my eyes and the places where I highlighted, I use the Sephora Collection Bright Set Pressed Finishing Powder. The yellow powder really helps to brighten under my eyes and it's easy to blend, even though getting product is a little difficult. Retail Price: $16.00

  7. Contour Powder: For contouring I had only used creams. I tried using powder for the first time with the LA Girl Pro Contour Powder in Deep and now I rarely, if ever contour with cream. I absolutely love how easy it is to blend out, and the look of powder contour vs cream contour. If you've been wanting to try a powder contour, you can't beat the price of this contour set. Retail Price: $7.00

  8. Eyeshadow Primer: For eyeshadow primer, I use the Urban Decay Original Eyeshadow Primer Potion.* It does a good job of making my eyeshadow last throughout the day and into the night. This is a staple in my makeup routine. Retail Price: $22.00

  9. Eyeshadow: For eyeshadow I keep it pretty basic. I'll use colors from the Sephora Collection Colorful 5 Eyeshadow Palette (Milk to Dark Chocolate)* to create my eye look. The eyeshadow will last throughout the day and into the night if I prime my eyes, otherwise it will last through a good chunk of the day before the eye crease completely eats up the product. The colors in the 5 Eyeshadow Palette are really pretty, and they are very pigmented. I will definitely be repurchasing this palette once I hit pan on certain colors. Retail Price: $25.00

  10. Eyeliner: I am a winged liner stan. I absolutely love doing a cat-eye liner, even though getting them perfect is the second hardest thing in my makeup routine. I will usually use two different liners. For creating the wing, I will use the Kat Von D Tattoo Liner in Trooper* because the brush tip gives the the most flexibility and control when making the wing. To fill in the lash line I'll go in with the Stila Stay All Day® Waterproof Liquid Eye Liner in Black.* One thing that I don't like about the Tattoo Liner is that it dries out quicker than I though a liquid liner would, otherwise I don't have any other complaints. Retail Price (Kat Von D): $20.00 | Retail Price (Stila): $22.00
If someone does know a good eyeliner that doesn't dry out and has a brush tip, let me know in the comments below!

  11. Mascara: I love the volume and lengthening that Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara* gives me. It gives me the look that I have super full lashes without putting on falsies. I naturally have relatively short lashes so I can take all the help I can get. The formula is great, and this has also become a staple in my makeup collection. Retail Price: $23.00
  12. Highlighter: I am a highlighter addict. I love highlighter so much, I have different ones depending on how much makeup I'm putting on. When I'm putting on a full face of makeup, I'll use two highlighters, both by Fenty Beauty by Rihanna. The first highlighter that I'll use is the Match Stix Shimmer Skinstick in Chili Mango* which comes in a gorgeous shade of orange, so I also use it as a blush. Next, I'll add the Killawatt Freestyle Highlighter in Trophy Wife on top of it to get that golden glow that Instagram loves. These two together gives off an absolutely gorgeous glow, and the Fenty Beauty by Rihanna line in general has some amazing products. Retail Price (Match Stix): $25.00 | Retail Price (Killawatt): $34.00
  13. Setting Spray: Now it's time to set the face. I use the Urban Decay All Nighter Long Lasting Makeup Setting Spray and it locks in the makeup so it doesn't slip and move around. This is another staple in my collection, as my makeup look isn't complete without it. I get the travel size because #freeSephorabag. Retail Price: $15.00
  14. Lipstick: 2017 was the year of the lipstick. From green to purple to red to black, I pushed myself out of my own comfort zone to try new lip colors. However, in a normal everyday setting, I will wear the Smashbox Always On Matte Liquid Lipstick in True Grit.* This is my nude lipstick. This is the color that I will subconsciously reach toward, because it's the perfect shade of brown. I also love the formula and how thick and creamy it is, to the point where I don't need to line my lips with dark brown lip liner. This lipstick changed my lip game for sure. Retail Price: $24.00

grand total: $304.00 (not including sales tax)

Phew. We got through it all. Wow. My makeup cost that much. It's crazy because there are people who spend WAY more on makeup then I do.

Even though this exercise took me a while to do, it was a really interesting experiment.

Until next time, I ask you this:
